About This Dam
Completed in 1979 on the Oum Er-Rbia, Al Massira Dam is Morocco's second largest with a capacity of 2,657 million m³. This 82 m gravity dam serves as the strategic water reserve for the Casablanca-Settat economic corridor, supplying drinking water to Casablanca, Settat, El Jadida, Safi and Benguerir. It also provides industrial water to the OCP Group (phosphates) at Jorf Lasfar. Its power station produces 128 MW (221 GWh/year), and it irrigates over 100,000 hectares in the Doukkala region. The reservoir has been a designated Ramsar wetland site since 2005.
