About This Dam
Built between 1998 and 2001 on the Oum Er-Rbia, Ahmed El Hansali is Morocco's first concrete-faced rockfill dam (CFRD), standing 101 m high with a 342 m crest. Equipped with sophisticated monitoring including vibrating wire strain gauges and perimetric jointmeters, it represents a major technological advance for the country. Its power station produces 92 MW of hydroelectric energy. It irrigates the Tadla plain in coordination with the downstream Aït Messaoud compensator dam, 8 km from Kasba Tadla.
