About This Dam
Tiddas Dam is a strategic 106-meter embankment located in Khemisset Province, about 70 km southwest of Rabat, on the Bouregreg River. Commissioned in 2022 after six years of construction by SGTM for an investment of 867 million Moroccan dirhams, it has a storage capacity of 507 million m³ and drains a watershed of 2,170 km². Tiddas — meaning 'group of hills' in Amazigh — plays three complementary roles: (1) securing the drinking water supply for the Kenitra-Rabat-Casablanca corridor home to more than 8 million people, complementing Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah Dam; (2) regulating Bouregreg floods to protect the downstream valley, absorbing peaks and progressively releasing water to SMBA; (3) irrigating 4,627 hectares of arboricultural perimeters at Béni Zoulit, Aït Zaghou, and Aït Boumska. Built under King Mohammed VI, it forms part of the dam acceleration policy that produced 60+ reservoirs in 20 years. Its normal retention level is 327 m above sea level and its highest waters level reaches 332.4 m, for a reservoir area of 15.57 km².
An emblematic dam of King Mohammed VI's water policy, Tiddas protects the Kenitra-Rabat-Casablanca corridor from water stress. By holding Bouregreg floodwaters and then releasing water to Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah Dam, it optimizes regional storage and prevents overflows like those of 2018. Its position upstream of SMBA makes it a key link in the Sebou-Bouregreg 'water highway'.
