About This Dam
Completed in 1979 on the Loukkos River, this 67 m embankment dam is named after the famous Battle of Oued el-Makhazine (Battle of the Three Kings) of 1578, where Morocco repelled a Portuguese invasion. Located 25 km southeast of Larache, it stretches nearly 28 km. Its power station produces 36 MW, and it irrigates over 40,000 hectares of the Loukkos plain, one of Morocco's most fertile. Before its construction, the Loukkos regularly flooded Ksar El Kebir, with 12 flood episodes between 1936 and 1951.
