About This Dam
Built between 1960 and 1967, Mohammed V Dam is the first major structure on the Moulouya, Morocco's longest river (520 km). This 64 m arch-gravity dam in Nador Province irrigates 60,000 hectares in the Bou Areg and Triffa plains. Its original 730 million m³ capacity has been reduced to 165 million by siltation. A major raising project, 69% complete in 2026, will add 12 m of height to bring capacity to approximately 1 billion m³, transforming the Oriental region's water infrastructure.
