About This Dam
Built between 1971 and 1972 as part of King Hassan II's 'one million hectares' strategy, Mansour Eddahbi is a 70 m concrete gravity dam on the Draa River near Ouarzazate. Named after the Saadian Sultan Ahmed el-Mansour, it is the keystone of the Draa Valley, one of North Africa's longest, feeding downstream oases and palm groves. It also supplies 2.5-3 million m³ of water annually to the Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex, the world's largest concentrated solar power plant, located 12 km away. The dam faces severe siltation, with capacity reduced from 529 to 439 million m³.
