About This Dam
Completed in 1981 on the Issen River in Taroudant Province, Abdelmoumen is a 94 m gravity dam with 198 million m³ capacity. It supplies drinking water to Agadir and irrigates the rich Souss plain, famous for citrus and early vegetables that make Souss-Massa Morocco's top agricultural export region. The dam is undergoing a major transformation with the construction of a 350 MW pumped-storage plant (STEP) by VINCI Construction, featuring 2 pump-turbines of 175 MW capable of 20 mode changes per day, to balance output from southern Morocco's wind farms.
